Kirkwood High School celebrates three seniors who achieved perfect ACT scores. Helena Verbrugge, Sara Simkins and Ezra Mendelson all achieved the highest possible ACT composite score of 36. While the actual number of top-scoring students varies nationwide each year, on average, less than one. tenth of 1% of students who take the ACT get the best score.
Verbrugge has dual citizenship of the United States and Belgium. She is a member of the KHS Pioneer Pride Marching Band and Jazz Group, in which she plays tenor saxophone and bassoon. She is also involved in the Mock Trial team and is a former member of the robotics team. She is currently enrolled in the St. Louis Centers for Advanced Vocational Studies program in advanced engineering and manufacturing. She plans to pursue a degree and career in environmental engineering.
Simkins is a member of the Mock Trial team, is the female captain of the racquetball team, is an officer at the KHS Club, and works on costume design for KH players. She loves to read and had a personal goal of reading one book per week in 2021. She is currently at book 44 for the year. After graduating, Simkins plans to pursue studies in international relations.
Mendelson is a member of the tennis team and enjoys the “Magic: The Gathering” trading card game. He prefers math lessons, but likes all subjects. After graduating from Kirkwood High School, Mendelson said he plans to harness his math skills with a career in the casino business as a dealer.
