Duiske Abbey returns to its usual opening hours, with weekend mass on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. and weekday mass at 10 a.m. except Saturday.

Our sincere condolences to the Doran family of Rathimney on the unexpected passing of Joan’s nephew, Joseph Flynn. Joseph had come from England to bury the ashes of his late mother, Philomène, in Gusserane. After the funeral and while visiting relatives in Galway, Joseph fell ill and died. His funeral mass was celebrated last Saturday in Gusserane followed by his burial in the local cemetery. Our hearts go out to her family as they deal with their sudden and unexpected loss.

Christmas lights

St Leonards’ now annual Christmas Lights charity run will take place this year on Sunday, December 19. Participants will gather from 4pm in the St Leonards lobby before heading out on the road with their Christmas lights on.

All types of vehicles are welcome. The route will take vehicles to Ballycullane, Burkestown, Balliniry, Saltmills, Clonmines, Wellingtonbridge, Foulksmills, Clongeen and back to St Leonards. All participants are requested to observe the Covid restrictions at the time of the rally. The registration fee is € 20 and the proceeds will again go to local charities.


Much work has been done on the lane by the Parish Council and most recently the Handball and Racquetball Club to get the facility back into working order and the newly formed committee was delighted to welcome the new members to the club during their recent registration. night. Anyone interested in registering is kindly requested to send an email to for instructions on how to register.

The club is also holding a Christmas raffle to raise funds to meet the initial goals of improving lighting and signage, toilets, painting and building access. Storm Barra caused last week’s Tintern Lotto draw to be postponed from Tuesday to Wednesday night. The numbers drawn were 1, 11, 14 and 26. There was no jackpot winner or match three winner, meaning this week’s jackpot is € 2,150 while the match three jackpot amounts to € 400.

GAA clubs AGM

The AGM of Gusserane Coiste na nÓg will take place on Friday December 17th. Anyone with motions or nominations for positions should send them to by Wednesday 15th December.

The adult club Gusserane GAA will hold its annual general meeting on December 28. Members are also requested to forward any motions or nominations for positions to no later than December 19.

The two meetings may need to be held virtually again, but a final decision on this will be made sooner and will depend on HSE guidelines.
