Buffalo Sabers re-sign forward ahead of free agency

The NHL is about to get very busy, as the start of free agency kicks off at noon EST on Wednesday, July 13.

The Buffalo Sabers have a ton of cap space to use ($30 million), but chances are they’ll play it close to the vest and only sign role players and maybe a goaltender. goal, which they desperately need.

The Sabers will have a few players of their own who will become free agents. including forward Cody Eakin and goaltender Dustin Tokarski, but they decided to keep one of their forwards from last season.

The Sabers have announced they have re-signed forward Vinnie Hinostroza to a one-year contract worth $1.7 million.

Hinostroza signed with the Sabers last summer as a free agent and scored 13 goals and 25 points in 63 games with Buffalo.

He started his career with the Chicago Blackhawks and later spent time with the Arizona Coyotes and Florida Panthers.

Hinostroza was a good player for the Sabers last season. He won’t play on the top two lines in 2022-23, but as a third-line winger he adds a bit more offensive depth and despite his size is still active along the boards.

Hinostroza has expressed a desire to return to the Sabers before the offseason and it shows he and the Sabers are determined to get him back on track once again, as general manager Kevyn Adams completes the deal less than 24 hours before the start of free agency.
