Head to head Brandon Nakashima vs. John Millman
There was a previous meeting between these two players and it happened earlier this year in Dallas.
Nakashima had won that first round match, but not before Millman stretched him in both sets.
Nakashima looking to build on last year’s final
Nakashima was the runner-up in this competition last season and will be hoping to build on that as he faces his second consecutive opponent from Australia.
In the first round, Nakashima had beaten Jordan Thompson but not before the Australian player managed to push him over the edge. In a two-hour, 14-minute match, Nakashima won 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-3, allowing him to clear 16 aces from the Thompson racket.
Interestingly, both players got just one break of serve in the entire match, with Nakashima getting a decisive one in game six of the final set.
The difference between the two players came in the first set tiebreaker where Nakashima earned himself successive mini-breaks to take a 6-5 lead and then won the next point on his own serve to clinch the set.
Can he do two in two now?

Millman sends another Australian package
Just like Nakashima, Millman also needed three sets including a deciding first set to win his opener and he also came against an Australian player.
It was Alexei Popyrin who stretched Millman in the opener before the world number 81 triumphed 7-6(1), 4-6, 6-3 to reach the second round.
The win follows a string of disappointing performances from Millman over the past 12 or so months that have ensured a tailspin in his world rankings. Ranked 38th in the world at one point last season, Millman now clings precariously to the top 100, having fallen to 94th in January.
A first-round win here should give him some breathing room, but Millman knows he has to do a lot better than record a weird, scrappy victory.
Nakashima v Millman Prediction and Tip
Nakashima may have been stretched out by Thompson, but given Millman’s poor form, we don’t see him wrestling anymore. Aiming for a straight-sets victory for Nakashima in this one.
