Pickleball courts open Saturday at Mountain Run Lake Park

Pickle-what? Pickleball is one of America’s fastest growing sports, a racquet/paddle game played with a whizzing ball on a shrinking tennis court.

Culpeper County just got the first set of public pickleball courts.

Culpeper County and the Department of Parks and Recreation will hold a grand opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m. this Saturday, October 22 at the newly constructed site of Mountain Run Lake Park, 16283 JB Carpenter Jr. Dr.

Guests are encouraged to dress in athletic or casual attire, as at the conclusion of the ceremony, the Culpeper Pickleball Association will host games and “dinner” all day, according to a statement from parks & rec.

In December, the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the $130,000 project at Mountain Run Lake Park. The city transferred ownership of the park out of town to the county late last year. The four new pickleball courts are conveniently located near the playground, restrooms and dog park.
