Cal State Fullerton is home to a state-of-the-art workout facility, the Student Recreation Center, and best of all, it’s free to all currently enrolled students. Going to any new gym can be overwhelming, and the CSUF Recreation Center is no exception. Here are five tips to make your first visit to SRC easier.
How to activate the student subscription
The first step is to visit the Titan Recreation Portal and log in with your Campus Portal ID. Once logged in, select the student subscription option. Although it will take you through a payment process, membership is free for registered students. Review the waivers before signing them, and you’re ready to check and move on to the next step. Activating your membership in advance takes the hassle out of signing up before you train.
Download the Titan Rec app
Downloading this application will give you access to all the features of the SRC. This is also how you will digitize your way to the Training Center.
The app has many useful features to help you get the most out of the services. For example, the live install count shows the number of people in each section of the gym, as well as when it was last updated. This is beneficial in giving an idea of the perfect time to hit the gym.
Discover the cardio studio upstairs
At peak times, the weight room on the first floor can be quite cramped. Instead, try going upstairs, where you can still get a full-body workout. The second floor, or the cardio studio, also contains a plethora of weights and weight machines. On this floor you will also find treadmills, stationary bikes and ellipticals. Since this floor is called the cardio studio, many machines are usually unoccupied, even during peak hours.
Weights not your thing?
The CSUF Student Recreation Center offers a variety of ways to make exercise accessible. One of the easiest workouts available is swimming. Especially on the hottest days, a few laps in the pool can feel like you’re not exercising at all. You can purchase towel service for $10 per semester, so don’t worry about bringing your own.
The rock climbing wall is hard to pass up for those looking for a little more adventure. This full body workout is also included in the student membership at no additional cost. Beginners should not feel discouraged from attempting the rock face as there is always a qualified staff member to guide them. For those looking for a group workout or a fun source of cardio, the basketball courts are the perfect place to shoot some free throws with your friends.
No equipment? No problem!
The SRC has an equipment checkout counter where you can rent a basketball, racquetball or volleyball to take advantage of the nets on the courts. All you need is your campus-wide ID.
Fitness classes, such as high-intensity interval training, spin, and pilates, are available by registration. These courses do not require you to bring your own equipment. In addition, the locker service is free for daily use. If you want to take out a locker for the semester, it’s $25 or $75 for the school year.
Using these five steps, you’ll know the ins and outs of the CSUF Student Recreation Center and become a gym rat in no time.
