Veterans Day 2022: events, open activities and closures around Vienna

VIENNA, VA — On Veterans Day, we honor everyone who served in the United States Armed Forces. The federal holiday on Friday, November 11 will be accompanied by special events in honor of veterans and schedule changes for local services.

American Legion Dyer-Gunnell Post 180 will hold its Veterans Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 at Patriot Hall, 330 Center St. N., Vienna, VA. The ceremony is open to the public and will be followed by a meal and refreshments.

The Fairfax County Park Authority will recognize Veterans Day with free admission to its nine recreation centers for veterans, active duty service members and their families on Nov. 11. Admission includes entry to the venues pools, fitness rooms, gymnasiums and racquetball courts. The closest locations to Vienna are the Oak Marr Rec Center (3200 Jermantown Rd., Oakton, VA) and the Spring Hill Rec Center (1239 Spring Hill Rd., McLean, VA). Military ID is required for free entry.

City of Vienna and Fairfax County government offices will be closed for the Veterans Day holiday on Nov. 11. Below are other schedule changes to be aware of around Vienna.

Fairfax County Public Schools: November 11 is a student holiday.

Community centers: Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services facilities will be closed Nov. 11. Fastran will not operate on November 11.

Courts: The Fairfax County Circuit Court, General District Court and District Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will be closed Nov. 11.

Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles: All Virginia DMV customer service centers will be closed on November 11.

Fairfax connector: The buses will run on public holiday service on 11 November. This means that all regular weekday routes operate, except routes 231, 232, 335, 351, 393, 394, 395, 396, 432, 461, 494, 495, 556, 585, 599, 624, 634 , 697, 698, 699, 715, 722, 724, 834, 835 and 985.

Libraries: The Patrick Henry Library and all Fairfax County Public Library locations are closed Nov. 11.

Subway: Metrorail will operate on a holiday schedule on Saturdays from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. Metrobus will operate on an additional schedule on Saturdays. For more information, visit www.wmata.com/service.

Post Office: Closed Nov 11.

Leisure centers: Open regular hours until 9 p.m. on November 11. Veterans, active duty military and their families enjoy free admission with military ID.

Garbage collection and recycling: Fairfax County collection customers will have collection services Nov. 11. Private collection customers should check with their carrier for any changes.
