St. Peter’s Men’s Basketball struts into the second round of the NCAA Tournament after an unlikely overtime upset against No. 2 Kentucky. The No. 15 Peacocks will face No. 7 Murray State at 7:45 p.m. Saturday.
Led by hot junior pair Daryl Banks III and Doug Edert, the Peacocks have the ingredients to be this year’s tournament darlings.
They are the 10th team to be seeded 15 and knock out a No. 2 seed and would only be the third to move to a Sweet 16 after Oral Roberts (2021) and Florida Gulf Coast (2013).
How did they manage to dominate Kentucky?
Shooting 52.9% from three points and 50.9% overall. They were 18 of 21 on free throws. Banks had a career-high 27 points while Edert had 20 and two big three-pointers down the stretch.
